A 4X strategy game based on the license of the Star Trek series. Star Trek: Infinite is the work of Nimble Giant Entertainment studio, and was published by Paradox Interactive. Star Trek: Infinite is a grand strategy game based on the license of the iconic science fiction brand titled Star Trek.
Storyline
Star Trek: Infinite takes us on a journey to the sci-fi universe created for the Star Trek series, specifically - to the sections of the Milky Way known as the Alpha Quadrant and the Beta Quadrant. During the course of the game, we stand at the head of one of four factions - the United Federation of Planets, the Klingon Empire, the Romulan Star Empire or the Cardassian Union - and lead it towards domination over the others. Depending on which faction you choose, you will be able to look at events from different perspectives, and you will meet different characters.
Mechanics
The gameplay in Star Trek: Infinite is based on the pillars erected by the Stellaris series. However, its various systems have been modified and, in some cases, simplified in some respects to better fit the specifics of this universe. We begin the game by choosing the faction we want to lead. Our range of possibilities related to the style of governance is determined by the norms that define each faction. For example, while the Federation can not initiate wars and develops only by peaceful means, the basis of development for the Klingons is their fleet, while the Romulans can not afford to field a huge number of ships, so they make up for these shortcomings with the size of their units. In addition, our capabilities are determined by so-called traditions, which determine whether we will focus on defense or conquest, or whether we will bet on industrial and scientific development or on glamour and trade with other forces operating in the Milky Way. And speaking of other forces - it is worth remembering that in the galaxy there are not only four major factions, but also a number of smaller ones; it is only up to us how our relations with these groupings will be arranged.
